FAQs

Each game gets delivered in a Scarlet Envelope full of clues and items. Case files, treasure maps, photos, pages of a diary, plus digital clues like videos and audio files...You will crack codes, cut, slice, and burn paper, but most importantly - you will THINK and solve the mystery. You can access hints online, and when you’re ready, you submit the answers at the end of the game and find out if you solved everything right.

Take Starter if you don’t have a lot of experience with escape rooms, quests, and IQ games, and you want a little more guidance and less sophisticated puzzles. Take Experienced if you feel good about an extra puzzle to unclock the hints (!), if you want to challenge yourself and play a bit longer.
+
The more hints you use, the faster you finish the game. On average, the game takes 1-2 hours, with the Starter level game being shorter than Experienced.
+
All games are suitable for any number of players. Play solo, with a partner, or in a team. From our experience, if you have more than 6 players, you might want to have two envelopes, so that people don’t fight for access to items :)
+
Small kids might get overwhelmed with all the details in the game, so we advise kids 10-15 to play the Starter level with adult supervision and use of hints. Kids 15+ can play Experienced with adult supervision.
Parental Advisory Information
We want to give parents and children the power to make informed choices about the games they play. Most of our games are suitable for all ages, but some are marked as “Mild Content”, which means they may contain “mild violence, suggestive themes, minimal blood or crude humor”. When describing a game, we refer to The American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA)’s Parental Advisory System (PAS) for rating coin-operated video games. If you see a game with content you’re not comfortable with, that is missing a parental advisory disclosure message and label “Mild Content”, please report it to us by sending an email to info@scarletenvelope.ca

Scarlet Envelope is designed to immerse you in a 13-games-long journey with a backstory. You can certainly get a single game in our "Stand-alone shop" but we highly recommend subscribing monthly or getting the whole series in a "Catch-Up" bundle, this way you will fully appreciate the backstory of our secret society!
+
This is how the full Scarlet Envelope series is designed:
Game 1 “Newspaper: Introduction to Mysteries” is a special onboarding game that gets you familiar with puzzles and codes. It also gives you teasers of the storyline-based games that are ahead of you.
Games 2-10 are story-based and all happen in different universes. Find a Parisian Cabaret dancer who disappeared. Stop the war between Earth and Mars in the year 2220. Work as a cop in the fifties and catch a Serial Killer. So many mysteries to solve!
Games 11 and 12 give you a deep dive into the backstory of our shadowy secret society! Then, Envelope 13 “Initiation” serves as a special add-on for the most loyal Secret Society members. To play, you will need to unlock it with a password. You will get the password by collecting 12 letters hidden in the games 1 to 12.
Finally, Game Zero takes you on a nostalgic trip back in time showing you the past of our powerful Game Master and closing the time loop.
